Lesson from the book of Wisdom
Wis 10:10-14
She conducted the just, when he fled from his brother's wrath, through the right ways, and shewed him the kingdom of God, and gave him the knowledge of the holy things, made him honourable in his labours, and accomplished his labours. In the deceit of them that overreached him, she stood by him, and made him honourable. She kept him safe from his enemies, and she defended him from seducers, and gave him a strong conflict, that he might overcome, and know that wisdom is mightier than all. She forsook not the just when he was sold, but delivered him from sinners: she went down with him into the pit. And in bands she left him not, till she brought him the sceptre of the kingdom, and power against those that oppressed him: and shewed them to be liars that had accused him, and gave him everlasting glory.
Léctio Epístolæ beáti Jacóbi Apóstoli
Jac 1:12-18.
Ps 17:33, 35
The God Who girded me with strength and kept my way unerring.
℣. Who trained my hands for war and my arms to bend a bow of brass.
Alleluia, alleluia.
℣. Thou hast given me the protection of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath held me up. Alleluia.
Deus, qui præcínxit me virtúte: et pósuit immaculátam viam meam.
℣. Dedísti mihi protectiónem salútis tuæ: et déxtera tua suscépit me. Allelúja.
Alleluia, alleluia.
1 Kings 25:26, 28
℣. The Lord has saved your hand to you: because you fight the battles of the Lord. Alleluia.
Ps 143:1
℣. Blessed be the Lord my God, Who trains my hands for battle, my fingers for war. Alleluia.
Allelúja, allelúja
Ps 25:26 et 28
Dóminus salvávit manum tuam tibi: quia prœ́lia Dómini tu prœliáris. Allelúja.
Ps 143:1
Ps 17:33, 35
The God Who girded me with strength and kept my way unerring.
℣. Who trained my hands for war and my arms to bend a bow of brass.
Ps 17:38-39, 50
I pursued my enemies, and overtook them.
℣. I smote them, and they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet.
℣. Therefore will I proclaim You, O Lord, among the nations, and I will sing praise to Your name.
Ps 17:33 et 35
Deus, qui præcínxit me virtúte: et pósuit immaculátam viam meam.

Continuation ☩ of the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Luke 6:6-11.
At that time, it came to pass on another Sabbath, that Jesus entered the synagogue and taught. And a man was there and his right hand was withered. And the Scribes and the Pharisees were watching whether He cured on the Sabbath, that they might find how to accuse Him. But He knew their thoughts, and He said to the man with the withered hand, Arise and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. But Jesus said to them, I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good, or to do evil; to save a life, or to destroy it? And having looked around upon them all, He said to the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he stretched it forth, and his hand was restored. But they were filled with fury, and began to discuss among themselves what they should do to Jesus.
Sequéntia ☩ sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam
Luc 6:6-11
Job 14:7
For a tree there is hope, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again and that its tender shoots will not cease.
Job 14:7
O Lord, may the holy intercession of blessed John be united with that of Your Saints whose images, through his efforts, we venerate in our churches, and thus may the gifts we offer You be found worthy in Your sight.
Through our Lord…
Ut, quæ tibi, Dómine, offérimus, dona tuo sint digna conspéctu: beáti Joánnis et Sanctórum, quos ejus ópera expósitos in templis cólimus, pia suffragátio conspíret.

Common
It is truly meet and just, and profitable unto salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks to Thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominions adore it, the Powers are in awe. Which the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. And do Thou command that it be permitted us to join with them in confessing Thee, while we say with lowly praise:
Communis
Ps 36:17
The power of the wicked shall be broken, but the Lord supports the just.
Ps 36:17
Bráchia peccatórum conteréntur, confírmat autem justos Dóminus.
We beseech You, O Lord, that the gifts we have eaten may be as heavenly weapons to guard us; and may we be protected by the patronage of blessed John, reinforced by the united prayers of the Saints, the veneration of whose images by the Church, he gloriously vindicated.
